Yes it can be done quite easily, if you’re using basecoat apply the first few coats nice and light, if it’s a solid then apply same as normal.
I used to use 2k over 1k primer the whole time, (against my will if I may add..) and it always worked fine.
2k is better if you have the money and facilities..
